How do I get started?

May I audit a class?
The first step is scary and the first few classes you may need to just take a breath for that reason, we don’t offer audits. Prospective students are more than welcome to schedule a Studio Tour or a quick visit to meet our Team before one of our Ongoing Classes. Our founder Katie has a career consult we offer to ease you in. We also encourage you to try out one of our Workshops as a helpful step in getting to know the way we work. We have been doing this for 17 years and love to walk new actors in the door!

How do I register?
Or favorite question! To register for Ongoing Classes or Workshops, choose your class via our registration page and complete the registration information. Check out our offerings on our REGISTER page.
Ongoing Class tuition covers 4 class sessions per month. Our Workshops often have two payment options; pay in full or payment plans. Payments are non-refundable and non-transferable. Please see notes about this on registration page.

How do I pay?
Easy peasy! You will have a portal for your personal registration. Upon registration the credit card on file will be charged the first day of each month for monthly tuition. Ongoing Class tuition covers 4 class sessions per month. *A $35 late fee will be charged for any tuition payment rejected and not paid by the 10th of the month. We are happy to help with this process. Once you are in-you’re all set unless you want to cancel (by the 20th of the month) or change a payment.

How do I make-up a class
Did you know most studios do not allow make-up classes? We do! The Studio NW offers a make-up opportunity 1-2 times per quarter. To be eligible to attend, students must have notified the studio of their absence, be a registered student and RSVP to the class date. Students who are no longer registered for classes are not eligible to attend. The Studio NW does not offer refunds or credits for missed classes. We expect our students to attend classes and watch the growth happen!
If you are booked on an acting job and unable to attend a scheduled class, you may make up the missed class in a different class (with coaches approval and scheduling). However, please note that participation in the make-up class is not guaranteed and may be limited to observation only. You will LOVE class and it’s likely that you won’t want to miss!
What should I bring to class?
Please dress in comfortable clothes and sneakers. Bring a notebook, water- bottle, a snack and a warm layer. We have a fridge w/ filtered water, /microwave, hot water kettle and all are available for use. We also sell snacks, drinks and offer tea in our cozy kitchen nook. We love a good snack moment!
*If you have received a script or sides, please be sure to bring those with you. If you forget and/or lose your sides, there may be a $5 fee to print a new set.

I need to cancel - what do I need to do?
We are sad to see you go! If life has turned your ship in another direction, that’s okay! To cancel an enrollment for on-going classes, a written cancellation notice is REQUIRED by the 20th of the month. Students are responsible for the following month's tuition if notice is received after the 20th of the month. For example, I request cancellation on March 28, I am responsible for the April tuition. To cancel contact the Program Director by email info@thestudionw.com. Additional paperwork may be required to ensure receipt of notice so please be sure we write you back, we want to support your needs. Our goal is to make this easy on you and welcome you back when the time is right.

What is the age range for adult classes?
Adult classes are for ages 18+

How do I get headshots?
The Studio NW partners with talented photographers in the region who often offer a discount to our students. Students receive emails and offers from TSNW from time to time.
Students are also welcome to get started by booking their own photographer. There are many to choose from in the Portland area! Here are a few we recommend:

When booking a photo or video shoot be sure to wear solid colors and arrive with fresh, clean hair and make-up. We recommend a make-up/hair artist of your photogs choosing.

Driving:
From I-405 Northbound take exit 2b, Everett & Glisan Street. Once off the exit continue on 14th Avenue to Hoyt Street. Take a right on Hoyt Street. The Maddox Building on the north corner of 13th & Hoyt Street.
From I-405 Southbound take exit 2b, Everett & Glisan Street. Once off the exit continue to Everett Street. Take a left on on 14th Street, then a right on Hoyt Street.
Parking: Is there a parking lot? Because we are in the heart of the Pear Dist. There is only short term parking available. Paid street parking surrounds the us at the Maddox Building. We recommend using the Parking Kitty App to pay. It’s approximately $2/hour. Additionally, there are several businesses that have free parking for customers including Safeway & 24 Hour Fitness. The best part is we are surrounded by food, coffee, and nightlife so you can enjoy the NW neighborhood and make it a great day!
